How do I expand my child's vocabulary?
Children need to know the meaning of words they are learning to read and write. It is important for them to expand their vocabularies constantly as well as develop a more complex understanding of their words they already know. Word meaning is related to the development of vocabulary-- labels, synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms. A great deal of vocabulary expansion will be accomplished as you real aloud to your child and as they read for themselves. Discussing the meaning of words they encounter in texts is very helpful to them.  This web page will provide you with some tips and activities to do to help your child expand their vocabulary.
